STATEHOUSE (March 3, 2025) — Legislation filed by State Sen. Eric Koch (R-Bedford) would prohibit Williams Dam from closure, partial closure, or removal if such action would impact either the provision of water utility service to the public or the supply of water to one or more private water wells. Senate Bill 426, authored by Koch, passed the Senate 46-3 and is now under consideration in the House of Representatives.
"I have heard the concerns of my constituents in the Williams area and elsewhere regarding the potential closure, including the potential impact on both public and private water supplies in the area,” said Koch, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Utilities. “While the Department of Natural Resources study will be looking at various potential impacts, protecting our local water supply should be among the highest considerations.”
Koch is the chairman of the Senate Committee on Utilities, ranking member of the Senate committees on Commerce and Technology and Judiciary, and a member of the Senate Committee on Corrections and Criminal Law. He represents Senate District 44, which includes Brown, Jackson, Lawrence and Orange counties, and portions of Monroe County.
