Statement from State Sen. Jim Tomes

State Sen. Jim Tomes (R-Wadesville) made the following statement today in response to Gov. Mike Braun's 2025 State of the State address:

STATEHOUSE (Jan. 29, 2025) – "Gov. Braun spoke on a lot of very important topics during his State of the State address, such as immigration, government efficiency, education, health care costs and property taxes.

"I am encouraged to see the governor focus on keeping our communities safe by ensuring our state is not a safe haven for unchecked illegal immigration.

"It is critical we remove the crushing weight of high medical costs and address issues causing high drug prices. Gov. Braun mentioned leading audits into health care spending, as well as directing our state agencies to bring full price transparency to health care services, which I believe is a great start to remedying this issue.

"Property tax relief is the top priority for Senate Republicans this session, and I am grateful the governor is just as determined to try and address this problem for property owners and businesses that may be suffering from continuous increases in their property taxes.

"I was also happy to hear about our state's success in education and our rank as sixth in the nation in reading. It is encouraging to see the work our teachers and legislature have been doing on that front is paying off.

"Gov. Braun has an inspiring vision for our state that mirrors our president's vision for our country. I am looking forward to a productive collaboration with the governor and setting the stage for a bright future for Indiana."
