Statehouse Spotlight with Sen. Schmitt:
Working for you at the Statehouse

By State Sen. Daryl Schmitt (R-Jasper)

As many local residents know, in September I was sworn in as Senate District 48's state senator.

Before my swearing in, the district was represented by Mark Messmer, who is now serving as a Congressman for Indiana's eighth district.

During his time in the Indiana General Assembly, Congressman Messmer would regularly update our community on Statehouse news through his "Messmer Report."

Now that he is serving in Washington D.C., I've decided to continue his tradition to keep my neighbors informed about what is happening at the Statehouse.

First, I'd like to introduce myself to those who don't know me.

I am a lifelong resident of southern Indiana and served as a member of the Dubois County Council from January 2023 through September 2024.

For the last 30 years, I have worked on my family farm as a fifth-generation farmer and I have earned degrees in Finance and Business Administration from Vincennes University and Business Management degree from Indiana State University.

With the 2025 legislative session being a budget year, I am working with fellow lawmakers to craft a balanced budget. Like you, state government should live within its means, and a balanced budget will ensure taxpayer dollars are invested wisely.

My Senate Republican colleagues and I are also prioritizing a number of issues this session, like enacting meaningful property tax reform, containing Medicaid costs, lowering health care costs, responsibly managing our state's resources and ensuring fiscal integrity and contract accountability.

Constituents can reach out to me with any questions or concerns they may have by filling out a "Contact Me" form at IndianaSenateRepublicans.com/Schmitt or by phone at 800-382-9467.
