Southridge High School graduate gains experience at Indiana Statehouse

STATEHOUSE (Feb. 11, 2025) – Alexander Niehaus is serving as an intern for the Indiana Senate Majority Caucus during the 2025 legislative session, said State Sen. Daryl Schmitt (R-Jasper).

Niehaus, a resident of Huntingburg, is the son of Kim and Derek Eckert, and Kurt Niehaus. Niehaus graduated from Southridge High School and is currently a sophomore at Indiana University studying informatics.

"It is a privilege to work with dedicated interns like Alexander who positively represent the communities I serve," Schmitt said. "Interns play an integral role in the Senate's daily operations, and I am glad to have Alexander helping us do our work this session."

As an IT intern, Niehaus helps senators and staff troubleshoot technology issues, implement new technologies and run cameras and other livestreaming equipment during committee meetings.

"I am honored and grateful for the opportunity to expand my IT knowledge and contribute to meaningful work through this internship with the Indiana State Senate," Niehaus said.

Senate Majority interns work through the duration of the legislative session, which is scheduled to end by April 29.
