ALTING PRESENTS SAGAMORE OF THE WABASH TO JERRY HOOVER: State Sen. Ron Alting (R-Lafayette, left) presents Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame member and longtime basketball coach Jerry Hoover with a Sagamore of the Wabash at Delphi High School on Saturday, Feb. 15. Hoover is a 1952 graduate of Monticello High School and former member of Purdue University's men's basketball team. He has served as the head boys basketball coach at DeMotte, Salem, North Judson, Lake Central, Ben Davis, Monrovia, Kankakee Valley and Blackford high schools and as the head girls basketball coach at Andrean and Logansport high schools.
"As a fan of high school basketball, I have seen the significant impact Jerry has had on the young adults he has coached over the years," Alting said. "Jerry is a true example of Hoosier Hysteria and why the game of basketball means so much in Indiana, and I was honored to present him with one of the state's highest honors."
Hoover took one of his Logansport teams overseas to China during the 2012-13 basketball season and was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in 2019.
