Rogers: Department of Homeland Security accepting damage reports in Elkhart County

STATEHOUSE (July 22, 2024) — The Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS) is accepting damage reports for recent severe weather in Elkhart County, said State Sen. Linda Rogers (R-Granger).

The reports should cover damage caused by the severe storm and tornado from July 16, 2024. Residents should contact Indiana 211 at 866-211-9966 or visit the Indiana 211 website. Hoosiers who live in the city can also report damage to MyElkhart311.

"The Indiana 211 system is an excellent way to receive assistance from the state on damages caused by extreme weather," Rogers said. "Collecting this data will help the IDHS determine damage estimates and further plan the recovery process. If you or someone you know has been impacted by the storms, please use the 211 system to report damage and learn about the resources that may be available to you."

Officials also warn residents with home or property damage to be wary of scammers. Residents can verify if a visitor is a trusted representative of the city or county by calling 574-293-2175.
