STATEHOUSE (Nov. 7, 2024) — Communities in Senate District 6 will receive more than $8 million to improve roads and bridges through the Community Crossings Matching Grant Program (CCMG), said State Sen. Rick Niemeyer (R-Lowell).

The CCMG, established by the Indiana General Assembly in 2016, aims to advance community infrastructure projects, strengthen local transportation networks and improve Indiana’s roads and bridges. Since its enactment, the program has awarded more than $1.8 billion in state matching funds for local construction projects.

In Senate District 6, the following communities received grants:

  • Benton County received $925,652.52;
  • Cedar Lake received $791,789.69;
  • Kentland received $150,429;
  • Lake County received $1.5 million;
  • Lowell received $541,120.50;
  • Morocco received $359,131.20;
  • Newton County received $459,232.50;
  • Rensselaer received $733,623;
  • Schererville received $1,048,124.52; and
  • St. John received $1.5 million.

"Our roads and bridges often need repairs and improvements because of the use of farm equipment during our planting and harvest seasons," Niemeyer said. "I am pleased to see so many communities in Senate District 6 receive funding and look forward to seeing the improvements made to our transportation infrastructure."

Through the program, the Indiana Department of Transportation matches up to $1.5 million annually when localities invest in road and bridge repairs. Counties with populations fewer than 50,000 and cities and towns with populations fewer than 10,000 receive a 75%/25% match, while counties with populations greater than 50,000 and cities and towns with populations greater than 10,000 receive a 50%/50% match.

The CCMG offers two rounds of applications each year, with the next call for applications occurring in January of 2025.
