Lake Central High School graduate gains experience at Indiana Statehouse

STATEHOUSE (Feb. 17, 2025) – Pia Lopez is serving as an intern for the Indiana Senate Majority Caucus during the 2025 legislative session, said State Sen. Dan Dernulc (R-Highland).

Lopez, a resident of Dyer, is the daughter of Gresyl and Oscar Lopez. Lopez graduated from Lake Central High School and is a junior at Purdue University Northwest studying political science and history.

"Interns are a vital part of our work during session," Dernulc said. "It was very exciting for me to see a northwest Hoosier taking part in our unique internship. It is a great experience for anyone looking to get into public service, and I commend Pia for her hard work and dedication to serving Indiana."

As a legislative intern, Lopez tracks and analyzes bill data, provides constituent services, staffs Senate committee hearings and meetings, and conducts legislative policy research.

"I am honored to contribute to my home state. Here I have been applying my education in the principles of our esteemed American governance," Lopez said.

Senate Majority interns work through the duration of the legislative session, which is scheduled to end by April 29.
