STATEHOUSE (April 7, 2025) — A bill authored by State Sen. Eric Koch (R-Bedford) to protect Williams Dam was recently signed into law by Gov. Mike Braun.
Senate Enrolled Act 426 prohibits Williams Dam from closure, partial closure or removal if such action would impact either the provision of water utility service to the public or the supply of water to one or more private water wells.
"I am grateful my colleagues and the governor have supported my efforts to address the concerns of constituents in the Williams area and elsewhere regarding the potential dam closure, specifically the potential impact on both public and private water supplies in the area,” said Koch, chairman of the Senate Committee on Utilities. “While an Indiana Department of Natural Resources study will be looking at potential impacts, protecting our local water supply should be among the highest priorities.”
SEA 426 passed with bipartisan support in both the Senate and House of Representatives.
Koch is the chairman of the Senate Committee on Utilities, ranking member of the Senate committees on Commerce and Technology and Judiciary, and a member of the Senate Committee on Corrections and Criminal Law. He represents Senate District 44, which includes Brown, Jackson, Lawrence and Orange counties, and portions of Monroe County.
