STATEHOUSE (Feb. 25, 2025) – Emily Mertz and Lucas Wolf are serving as interns for the Indiana Senate Majority Caucus during the 2025 legislative session, said State Sens. Cyndi Carrasco (R-Indianapolis) and Aaron Freeman (R-Indianapolis).
Mertz, a resident of Indianapolis, is the daughter of Ken and Jennifer Mertz. Mertz graduated from Southport High School and is a junior at Indiana University studying journalism.
"Interns play a significant role in helping session run smoothly for Senators and staff," Carrasco said. "It's inspiring to have interns from Indianapolis like Emily and Lucas taking part in their state government."
Wolf, a resident of Indianapolis, is the son of Eric and Amy Wolf. Wolf graduated from Roncalli High School and is a senior at Indiana University Indianapolis studying media arts and science.
"Interns like Lucas and Emily are a great resource during a busy legislative season," Freeman said. "It's exciting to have interns from the local community embarking on professional experience with us while shaping their skills."
As a press secretary intern, Mertz tracks legislation and media coverage, writes news releases and op-eds, creates e-communication and social media strategies, and works with members of media.
"As someone who has grown up on the Southside and is now a student at IU Bloomington, I am excited to be back in Indy this semester learning and interning with the Indiana Senate Communications team," Mertz said.
As a multimedia intern, Wolf writes news releases, columns and e-newsletters, takes and edits photos, and helps correspond with members of the media.
"It is such a wonderful opportunity to work at the Indiana Statehouse. I am honored to be in a position where I can learn about our local government and gain professional experience," Wolf said.
Senate Majority interns work through the duration of the legislative session, which is scheduled to end by April 29.
