STATEHOUSE (March 6, 2025) — State Sen. Greg Goode (R-Terre Haute) honored Terre Haute resident Dr. Crystal Reynolds Thursday morning for her decades of service as a historian, storyteller, community mental health advocate and mentor.
Senate Resolution 38 recognizes Dr. Reynolds for her decades of advocacy and research of African American history in the Wabash Valley.
"Dr. Reynolds has pioneered the study of African American history throughout her time as an educator in the Wabash Valley," Goode said. "She has led groundbreaking research on the impacts of people of color in Vigo County, and I have personally learned a great deal of important local history through her writing and lectures."
During her time in Terre Haute, Dr. Reynolds has conducted "Hidden History Tours" to school-aged children, volunteered for countless organizations and events, conducted the first Juneteenth celebration at the Vigo County Historical Society and petitioned for a street to be named after Vigo County native Cynthia Shepard Perry, an American diplomat who served as the Ambassador to Sierra Leone during the Ronald Reagan administration and Ambassador to Burundi during the George H. W. Bush administration.
"I am honored to recognize Dr. Reynolds for her work and dedication to telling the stories that previously went overlooked," Goode said. "Through her teachings, I have learned more about Terre Haute than I ever could have imagined. Moreover, her passion for our Terre Haute community and her countless hours of service to others makes her so deserving of this recognition."
Goode encourages residents of Senate District 38 to contact him with any questions or comments they may have. Goode can be reached by filling out a "Contact Me" form online at www.IndianaSenateRepublicans.com/Goode or by phone at 800-382-9467.
