STATEHOUSE (Dec. 11, 2024) — State Sen. Greg Goode (R-Terre Haute) was formally presented as Aviation Indiana's 2024 Indiana Senator of the Year during a meeting of the Terre Haute Regional Airport Board of Directors meeting Wednesday.
The award recognizes Goode for his work on House Enrolled Act 1242 during the 2024 legislative session.
HEA 1242 helps Indiana's airports cover some of the cost of replacing underground storage tanks and replace them with above ground tanks through the Indiana Department of Environmental Management's (IDEM) Excess Liability Trust Fund.
Goode said the bill not only helps airports across Indiana, but also helps keep the state's soil and water clean.
"The Excess Liability Trust Fund is one of IDEM's most successful cleanup programs," Goode said. "I am glad to see HEA 1242 assist airports across the state. I would like to thank Aviation Indiana for their support for the bill and humbly accept the recognition as the organization's Senator of the Year."
Aviation Indiana's Executive Director Bart Geisler said Goode knows how important airports are for Indiana's economy.
"As a result of this legislation, two airports are already in the process of replacing their old tanks," Geisler said. "Sen. Goode understands that general aviation airports across the state are welcome centers for businesses looking to come to Indiana and serve existing Hoosier companies to provide them with direct access to customers."
Rick Burger, President of the Terre Haute Regional Airport's Board of Directors, congratulated Goode on receiving the recognition.
"Since entering office, Sen. Goode has demonstrated his steadfast commitment to not only being a fierce advocate for the Wabash Valley, but a true partner and friend to Terre Haute Regional Airport and other aviation entities across the state," Berger said.
