STATEHOUSE (March 6, 2025) — Communities in Senate District 1 will receive nearly $5.5 million to improve roads and bridges through the Community Crossings Matching Grant Program (CCMG), said State Sen. Dan Dernulc (R-Highland).

The CCMG, established by the Indiana General Assembly in 2016, aims to advance community infrastructure projects, strengthen local transportation networks and improve Indiana’s roads and bridges. Since its enactment, the program has awarded more than $2 billion in state matching funds for local construction projects.

In Senate District 1, the following communities received grants:

  • Dyer received $1.5 million;
  • Gary received $1.5 million;
  • Griffith received $534,863.50;
  • Schererville received $1,172,053.49; and
  • Highland received $753,271.70.

"The Community Crossings Grant Program presents an excellent opportunity to improve transportation for residents of Indiana, and I am pleased to see our local leaders utilizing these resources," Dernulc said. "I look forward to seeing the positive changes that will result from these investments and how they will benefit our community."

Through the program, the Indiana Department of Transportation matches up to $1.5 million annually when localities invest in road and bridge repairs. Counties with populations fewer than 50,000 and cities and towns with populations fewer than 10,000 receive a 75%/25% match, while counties with populations greater than 50,000 and cities and towns with populations greater than 10,000 receive a 50%/50% match.
