Dernulc: Bill adding Lake County to the Indiana Crime Guns Task Force passes Senate

STATEHOUSE (March 17, 2025) — A bill sponsored by State Sen. Dan Dernulc (R-Highland) that would add Lake County to the Indiana Crime Guns Task Force passed the Senate unanimously today.

Established in 2021, the Indiana Crime Guns Task Force was created by House Enrolled Act 1558 (2021) covering counties in central Indiana with the goal of reducing gun-related crimes. The Indiana Crime Guns Task Force brings together local police departments, state police and federal partners to track and remove illegal firearms, investigate firearm-related crimes, improve coordination between agencies and create a uniform strategy to track firearms used to commit crimes.

House Enrolled Act 1095 would add Lake County to the Indiana Crime Guns Task Force. The task force has successfully solved hundreds of crimes through firearm tracing, and adding Lake County would promote public safety in the local community.

"I am happy to have helped move this important piece of legislation through the Senate," Dernulc said. "This change would positively impact Lake County and help in the battle against illegal guns and drugs in Indiana. Thank you to my colleagues for your support, and I look forward to the governor's consideration of this bill."

HEA 1095 will now move to the governor's desk for final consideration.
