Deery: Bill to expand emergency medical transportation heads to governor's desk

STATEHOUSE (April 23, 2025) — A bill authored by State Sen. Spencer Deery (R-West Lafayette) that would allow emergency responders to transport patients to more options than an emergency room now heads to the governor's desk for further consideration.

Senate Enrolled Act 505 would allow an ambulance, with safety protocols in place, to transport a patient to a mental health facility or an urgent care facility that can provide appropriate treatment.

"At times, an emergency room is not the best option for a patient in need of urgent medical treatment," Deery said. "This legislation would give Hoosiers more options for their health care needs, especially those experiencing a mental health crisis, and could also help lower costs."

SEA 505 passed unanimously out of both the Senate and House of Representatives.

Deery encourages residents of Senate District 23 to contact him with any questions or comments they may have. Deery can be reached by filling out a "Contact Me" form online at www.IndianaSenateRepublicans.com/Deery or by phone at 800-382-9467.
