STATEHOUSE (March 26, 2025) – Avon High School senior Calleigh Neal was recognized by State Sen. Brett Clark (R-Avon) and State Rep. Greg Steuerwald (R-Avon) with Senate Concurrent Resolution 30 for being named Indiana's Distinguished Young Woman for 2025.
At Avon, Neal serves as student body president, an officer in DECA and a member of both the Avon Youth Civic Engagement Council and the National Honor Society. She is also a student athlete playing golf all four years of high school, earning her varsity letter.
Beyond academics and athletics, Neal contributes to her community by leading Vacation Bible School, babysitting, tutoring younger students and having lively conversations — sometimes all at the same time.
Neal's exceptional dedication to her school and community earned her the title of Indiana's Distinguished Young Women of 2025. Distinguished Young Women is the nation's oldest and largest scholarship program celebrating the scholastic achievements, leadership and talents of high school-aged women.
"This young woman is the epitome of what it means to be a multifaceted go getter," Clark said. "Her determination and work ethic earned her this amazing achievement. Once again, congratulations Calleigh, and I wish you well in your future endeavors."
In addition to being Distinguished Young Woman of Indiana, Calleigh is, among other honors, the reigning Optimist International Oratorical World Champion, a National Merit Finalist, a United States Presidential Scholars candidate and one of two Indiana delegates for the highly selective United States Senate Youth Program.
"Calleigh is still a student, yet has already accomplished so much through school, extracurricular activities and helping others," Steuerwald said. "Being the first Avon High School student to be named Distinguished Young Woman of Indiana is tremendous, and I look forward to her representing our state on the national stage and what she'll achieve as a future leader."
