STATEHOUSE (Aug. 15, 2024) — A bill authored by State Sen. Ron Alting (R-Lafayette) revolutionizing Indiana's brewing industry was ceremonially signed into law today by Gov. Eric Holcomb.
Senate Enrolled Act 205 allows small breweries in Indiana to utilize equipment from other small breweries to meet demands and explore growth opportunities within the industry.
"Collaboration is an important aspect of this bill," Alting said. "This law allows breweries throughout the state to work together and help grow Indiana's craft beer industry."
The idea for the law came after discussions with Lafayette-based breweries like People's Brewing Company and Lafayette Brewing Company.
People's Brewing Company co-founder Chris Johnson said the law has already helped Hoosier small breweries work together and grow the industry.
"By allowing small businesses to share resources and collaborate, we can stimulate growth for local businesses and jobs," Johnson said. "We worked with Sen. Alting to develop the bill and make sure that he and other legislators understood what it meant for our industry growth in the future."
The law also allows small breweries to work together on recipes for specialty and seasonal beers, opening new markets to these businesses.
"I was pleased to see this law receive widespread support in the General Assembly earlier this year and am excited to see how it will help small businesses across the state grow," Alting said.
