STATEHOUSE (Aug. 16, 2024) – State Sen. Ron Alting (R-Lafayette) presented Sagamore of the Wabash awards to World War II veterans Bill J. Crane and James "Red" Winget to honor their service to the country Thursday evening.
"Bill and Red are members of the greatest generation of Americans and helped free millions from tyranny across the world," Alting said. "The Sagamore of the Wabash is the state's highest honor Hoosiers can receive, and these two great men earned this recognition through their sacrifices."
The Sagamore of the Wabash was created nearly 80 years ago to honor individuals who have performed distinguished service to Indiana.
"As a state senator, I have always worked hard to honor those who allow me to serve them in the legislature," Alting said. "Thanks to the service of men like Bill and Red, our democracy remains strong."
