Statement from State Sen. Aaron Freeman

State Sen. Aaron Freeman (R-Indianapolis) made the following statement today in response to
the idea of bringing a casino to Indianapolis:

STATEHOUSE (Feb. 24, 2025) – "This week I spoke on Senate Bill 43, a proposal on studying the relocation of gambling operations, in favor of bringing a casino to Indianapolis – a move I believe could greatly benefit our city and state.

"Indianapolis already has a unique and thriving tourism market, making it an ideal location to support a local casino. Such a development would not only attract additional visitors, but also enhance Indianapolis' ability to fund the upkeep of local infrastructure.

"The reality is that gaming is already happening. Indianapolis should seize this opportunity to capitalize on this growing trend. Establishing a casino in our capital city would create new possibilities for economic growth and support downtown businesses.

"If the core purpose of casinos is to generate revenue for the citizens of Indiana, then it's important to consider how we can use those funds effectively. Every dollar earned should go directly toward much needed improvements — fixing potholes, expanding lanes of travel and ensuring safer and more efficient travel for all Hoosiers. This is an issue that I believe to be bipartisan and gain support from all sides.

"Furthermore, a casino in Indianapolis would operate with downtown businesses, boosting foot traffic and creating a more vibrant local economy. This isn't just an idea for entertainment – it's a vision for how Indianapolis can continue to grow and thrive in years to come."
