Zay: Jonesboro receives Blight Clearance Program Grant

STATEHOUSE (Feb. 26, 2025) — The offices of Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith and of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) recently announced the city of Jonesboro has been awarded a $375,000 Blight Clearance Program Grant (BCP) through the Community Development Block Grant Program, said State Sen. Andy Zay (R-Huntington).

The Community Development Block Grant Program aims to assist rural communities' local governments with community projects like infrastructure improvement, downtown revitalization, public facility updates and economic development. The BCP provides the resources to help communities clean up deteriorated or abandoned downtown buildings or vacant and unusable industrial sites. The program is designed to help beautify these properties so communities can focus on their long-term development and revitalization.

The City of Jonesboro is awarded $375,000 to safely demolish the old JC Knight School, formerly the city's high school. Eliminating environmental hazards will improve community safety and promote neighborhood revitalization

"It is great to see our state and local leaders seeking out funding to support rural communities like Jonesboro," Zay said. "This grant will pave the way for future improvements and benefit our community for years to come by making the community safer. I look forward to seeing the positive impact this funding will have on Jonesboro."

Zay encourages residents of Senate District 17 to contact him with any questions or comments they may have. Zay can be reached by filling out a "Contact Me" form online at www.IndianaSenateRepublicans.com/Zay or by phone at 800-382-9467.
