Statement from State Sen. Travis Holdman

State Sen. Travis Holdman (R-Markle), Senate Vice Chair of the State and Local Tax Review (SALTR) Task Force and Chair of the Senate Committee on Tax and Fiscal Policy, made the following statement today following the release of the task force's recommendations:

STATEHOUSE (Nov. 20, 2024) — "The work of the State and Local Tax Review (SALTR) Task Force over the last two years has been productive in identifying the strengths and weaknesses of Indiana's tax system. Overall, this work has demonstrated that Indiana does have low taxes and a very competitive tax system, ranking No. 10 in the country for the best overall tax system, including No. 5 for property taxes. Yet, we know there are valid concerns among Hoosier taxpayers that they want us to address.

"The final report SALTR is releasing today includes multiple reform recommendations for property taxes and local income taxes. We won't be able to enact all of these changes in one year, but this report sets up a road map for where we hope to go in the near future. I look forward to working with my Senate colleagues, Chairman Thompson and Gov.-elect Braun in the years to come as we set a course for meaningful tax reforms for Hoosiers."
