Statement from State Sen. Greg Walker

State Sen. Greg Walker (R-Columbus) made the following statement today in response to Gov. Mike Braun's 2025 State of the State address:

STATEHOUSE (Jan. 29, 2025) – "Tonight, Gov. Braun addressed Indiana regarding many important issues affecting Hoosiers throughout the state. His priorities align with many of our caucus priorities, and they are topics that need to be addressed. I am also working on legislation that will increase the tax credit for newborns, support children and providers in child services, and expand access to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

"Senate Bill 497 would increase tax credits for newborns or new-dependents. This tax credit increase would support growing families settling into their new normal after welcoming a child into their lives.

"Senate Bill 498 would better support children and providers in child services by simplifying the system. This includes lengthening the amount of time a child can stay in an emergency shelter and simplifying the education requirements for employees at a foster care agency.

"Senate Bill 529 would streamline Indiana's participation in the SNAP to allow more Hoosiers and their children to have access to quality food.

"We have many important issues to discuss this session and I look forward to working with my colleagues and the governor to make life easier for Hoosiers throughout the state."
