State Sen. Aaron Freeman (R-Indianapolis) made the following statement today regarding Senate Enrolled Act 198 being signed into law:
STATEHOUSE (April 3, 2019) – “Yesterday, I voted in support of bias crime legislation, which passed the Senate by a vote of 34 to 14.
“Throughout this session, I have been committed to passing bias crime legislation that protects all Hoosiers and removes Indiana from the states without a bias crime law.
“Senate Enrolled Act 198 provides our judges with the discretion to increase a sentence for a crime committed against a person for any kind of bias, protecting all Hoosiers.
“Gov. Eric Holcomb signed SEA 198 into law this afternoon.”
