Statehouse Spotlight with Sen. Schmitt:
Gov. Braun Delivers his first State of the State address

By State Sen. Daryl Schmitt (R-Jasper)

On Wednesday night, Gov. Mike Braun delivered his first State of the State address in front of a joint session of the Indiana General Assembly.

During his speech, the governor discussed many topics impacting Hoosiers and how he would like to see them fixed.

His top priority, as well as the top priority of Senate Republicans this session, is to pass meaningful property tax reform for Hoosiers.

Gov. Braun also discussed the need of state and local government to run more efficiently, which would help reduce Hoosiers' tax burdens.

At the start of his administration, the governor created a new cabinet structure to make state government run like a business. This new structure also adds a new level of accountability that previously did not exist in Indiana.

As a new member of the Senate, I was honored to watch Gov. Braun deliver his first State of the State address and I am excited to be able to work with a fellow Dubois County resident at the Statehouse this session.

I have been a strong proponent of delivering solutions at the local level, and I look forward to working with the governor, his administration and my colleagues in the General Assembly to pass legislation that will make the lives of Hoosiers across the state even better.
