State Sen. Spencer Deery to serve on interim study committees and higher education commission

STATEHOUSE (June 27, 2024) — State Sen. Spencer Deery (R-West Lafayette) will serve as a member of two interim study committees in preparation for the 2025 legislative session.

Deery's assignments include the Interim Study Committee on Energy, Utilities, and Telecommunications and the Interim Study Committee on Public Health, Behavioral Health, and Human Services.

"These study committees give lawmakers a chance to dive deeper and discuss important topics before the next legislative session," Deery said.

Legislators will meet over the summer and fall months to discuss topics approved by the bipartisan Legislative Council, which is comprised of 16 voting members – eight from the Senate and eight from the House of Representatives.

In addition to the two study committees, Deery has also been appointed to the Midwestern Higher Education Compact (MHEC).

The MHEC aims to strengthen higher education in the Midwest through cost savings and other policy solutions.

"The state has set a goal to help more Hoosiers earn a degree beyond a high school diploma," Deery said. "The Midwestern Higher Education Compact brings representatives from 12 states together to discuss ways to make higher education more affordable, and therefore more attainable, for residents across the region."
