Sen. Byrne welcomes local students to Statehouse

STATEHOUSE (Feb 20, 2023) – State Sen. Gary Byrne (R-Byrneville) welcomed the following local students to the Statehouse who served as Senate pages in January.

• Aynslie Cockerill, from Salem, attends Charleston High School
• Brinley Cockerill, from Salem, attends Salem Middle School
• Quintin McKinley, from Salem, attends Salem Middle School
• Addison Roop, from Campbellsburg, attends West Washington High School
• Jesse Wallace, from Campbellsburg, is a homeschooled student
• Issac Wallace, from Campbellsburg, is a homeschooled student
• Lydia Windell, from Corydon, attends North Harrison High School

Pages spend a day at the Statehouse touring the historic building, observing debates from the Senate floor and interacting with their state senator.

"As a state senator, I look forward to teaching local students about the legislative process," Byrne said. "The Senate Page Program is a wonderful experience that allows students to learn about state government up close, and I encourage all young Hoosiers interested in state government to participate."

Students in grades six through 12 participate in the page program on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays during the legislative session. Groups serve on Wednesdays.
