STATEHOUSE (March 6, 2025) — Communities in Senate District 48 will receive nearly $7.7 million to improve roads and bridges through the Community Crossings Matching Grant Program (CCMG), said State Sen. Daryl Schmitt (R-Jasper).

The CCMG, established by the Indiana General Assembly in 2016, aims to advance community infrastructure projects, strengthen local transportation networks and improve Indiana’s roads and bridges. Since its enactment, the program has awarded more than $2 billion in state matching funds for local construction projects.

In Senate District 48, the following communities received grants:

  • Birdseye received $93,907.50;
  • Cannelton received $212,599.10;
  • Chrisney received $115,236;
  • Crawford County received $611,476.50;
  • Dubois County received $1.5 million;
  • Grandview received $96,739.50;
  • Hazleton received $74,986.26;
  • Perry County received $1.5 million;
  • Pike County received $1,498,626.93;
  • Spencer County received $1.5 million; and
  • Tell City received $481,468.93.

"As a farmer and former Dubois County Councilman, I know how important maintaining local roads is in attracting economic development and keeping our community safe," Schmitt said. "I'd like to thank the local leaders who applied for this funding for always looking for ways to improve the infrastructure in our cities, towns and counties."

Through the program, the Indiana Department of Transportation matches up to $1.5 million annually when localities invest in road and bridge repairs. Counties with populations fewer than 50,000 and cities and towns with populations fewer than 10,000 receive a 75%/25% match, while counties with populations greater than 50,000 and cities and towns with populations greater than 10,000 receive a 50%/50% match.
