STATEHOUSE (Nov. 7, 2024) — Communities in Senate District 9 will receive nearly $6 million to improve roads and bridges through the Community Crossings Matching Grant Program (CCMG), said State Sen. Ryan Mishler (R-Mishawaka).

The CCMG, established by the Indiana General Assembly in 2016, aims to advance community infrastructure projects, strengthen local transportation networks and improve Indiana’s roads and bridges. Since its enactment, the program has awarded more than $1.8 billion in state matching funds for local construction projects.

In Senate District 9, the following communities received grants:

  • Bremen received $1,167,204.75;
  • Kosciusko County received $1,280,076.65;
  • Milford received $215,403;
  • Millersburg received $104,821.40;
  • Mishawaka received $1,474,969.66;
  • Osceola received $503,414.40;
  • South Bend received $388,250;
  • Warsaw received $493,510.50; and
  • Winona Lake received $302,329.96.

"The Community Crossings Matching Grant Program is an excellent way for local leaders to create a stronger transportation network for their communities," Mishler said. "Indiana's road and bridge infrastructure plays an integral role in fostering economic development throughout the state, especially since many Hoosiers depend on these travel systems for their jobs. I am pleased to see so many communities in Senate District 9 receive this funding and look forward to the impact it will have both locally and throughout the state."

Through the program, the Indiana Department of Transportation matches up to $1.5 million annually when localities invest in road and bridge repairs. Counties with populations fewer than 50,000 and cities and towns with populations fewer than 10,000 receive a 75%/25% match, while counties with populations greater than 50,000 and cities and towns with populations greater than 10,000 receive a 50%/50% match.

The CCMG offers two rounds of applications each year, with the next call for applications occurring in January of 2025.
