Jefferson High School graduate gains experience at Indiana Statehouse

STATEHOUSE (Feb. 13, 2025) – Katelyn Hickman is serving as an intern for the Indiana Senate Majority Caucus during the 2025 legislative session, said State Sen. Ron Alting (R-Lafayette).

Hickman, a resident of Lafayette, is the daughter of Mark and Julie Hickman. Hickman graduated from Jefferson High School and is a senior at Purdue University studying marketing and management.

"Our interns play an extremely beneficial role in the daily operations of the Senate, helping to ensure a smooth and efficient legislative session," Alting said. "I am beyond thrilled to have an intern like Katelyn positively representing Lafayette in our internship program."

As a legislative intern, Hickman tracks and analyzes bill data, provides constituent services, staffs Senate committee hearings and meetings, and conducts legislative policy research.

"My time working in the Senate has been a transformative experience that has given me invaluable insight into the legislative process and public service," Hickman said. "As I move forward with my legal studies at Purdue University, the lessons I've learned here will be instrumental in shaping my long-term career."

Senate Majority interns work through the duration of the legislative session, which is scheduled to end by April 29.
