Indiana University students gain experience
at Indiana Statehouse

STATEHOUSE (Feb. 12, 2025) – Tate Blackwell and Maya Fawaz are serving as interns for the Indiana Senate Majority Caucus during the 2025 legislative session and were welcomed to the Statehouse by State Sen. Eric Koch (R-Bedford).

Blackwell, a resident of Bloomington, is the daughter of Susan and Larry Blackwell. She graduated from Bloomington High School South and is a graduate of Indiana University with a degree in psychology.

Fawaz, a resident of Novi, Michigan, is the daughter of Fadi Fawaz. Fawaz graduated from Novi High School and is a junior at Indiana University studying law and public policy.

"Interns help us a lot during the hustle and bustle of session," Koch said. "It's exciting to have interns like Tate and Maya from the local community coming to the Statehouse to gain professional experience."

As legislative interns, Blackwell and Fawaz track and analyze bill data, provide constituent services, staff Senate committee hearings and meetings, and conduct legislative policy research.

"I'm excited to be working for the Indiana Senate during the legislative session, and for the opportunity to gain firsthand experience working with policymakers," Blackwell said.

Senate Majority interns work through the duration of the legislative session, which is scheduled to end by April 29.
