Ford: Bill on welding standards signed by governor

STATEHOUSE (May 22, 2023) — A bill sponsored by State Sen. Jon Ford (R-Terre Haute) that will require Indiana contractors working on public works projects to meet standards relating to welding structural steel was ceremonially signed into law today by Gov. Eric Holcomb.

House Enrolled Act 1211 will also require welders on these projects to hold valid certifications from the American Welding Society, which will keep Hoosiers safe as they travel along bridges and visit structures across the state.

"HEA 1211 will enhance public safety and ensure contractors working on these projects are trained and ready to perform the tasks," Ford said. "This new law will also give those with the certification a leg up in Indiana by making this important skill more desirable amongst Hoosiers. I am happy to see the governor sign it into law."
