STATEHOUSE (Feb. 18, 2025) — A bill authored by State Sen. Dan Dernulc (R-Highland) that would improve the oversight of the Little Calumet River Basin Development Commission passed the Senate unanimously today.
Senate Bill 40 would require the Little Calumet River Basin Development Commission to submit an annual budget to the Lake County Council for approval.
"The members of the Little Calument River Basin Development Commission are doing a fine job serving as the local sponsor for the Little Calumet River, Indiana Flood Control and Recreation Project," Dernulc said. "This change is just meant to create some oversight, by elected officials, to this commission which is handling taxpayer money. It should be beneficial to all involved and ensure the funds are used in an effective way."
SB 40 will now move to the Indiana House of Representatives for further consideration.
