Local students gain experience at Indiana Statehouse

STATEHOUSE (March. 11, 2025) – Two local college students are serving as interns for the Indiana Senate Majority Caucus during the 2025 legislative session, said State Sen. Cyndi Carrasco (R-Indianapolis).

Esther Blake, a resident of Indianapolis, is the daughter of Dayton and Joyce Blake. Blake graduated from the Classical Studies of Indianapolis and is a sophomore at Indiana University Indianapolis studying human resource management.

Andy Gibson, a resident of Indianapolis, is the son of Annie and William Gibson. Gibson graduated from Decatur Central High School and is a junior at Indiana University Indianapolis studying law and global international studies.

"Interns are extremely helpful to the Senate, especially during a budget year," Carrasco said. "It's exciting to have interns from the local community come and experience how their local and state government work together to create legislature."

As legislative interns, Blake and Gibson track and analyze bill data, provide constituent services, staff Senate committee hearings and meetings, and conducts legislative policy research.

"Being able to work and have firsthand experience in local government is one of the greatest privileges," Blake said. "I am so thankful to have the opportunity to learn and immerse myself with the staff and policy makers behind some of Indiana's biggest legislation."

"Working for the Indiana Senate has been a great experience," Gibson said. "I like that each week I gain new insight into the legislative system and professional experience."

Senate Majority interns work through the duration of the legislative session, which is scheduled to end by April 29.
