Brown: Bill to change Indiana health care laws passes Senate

STATEHOUSE (Feb. 20, 2025)A bill authored by State Sen. Liz Brown (R-Fort Wayne) that would make various changes to Indiana health care laws passed the Senate today by a vote of 47 to 2.

Senate Bill 473 would make changes to Indiana health care laws with the goal of reducing unnecessary government regulations, conforming Indiana code with federal law and streamlining Hoosiers' access to health services. SB 473 includes changes to opioid treatment program procedures, streamlines the oversight of nurse aides and home health aides by state government, improves statutory guidance for our youth with hearing impairments, and eases the ability to provide anesthesia services in an office-based physician setting.

“I have titled this three-year series of legislation I've been working on 'Increasing Access to Care for Hoosiers Everywhere' (I-ACHE), with this year's bill titled I-ACHE 3.0," Brown said. "SB 473 builds upon my continued efforts to increase accessible care and streamline processes in health administration. It is important to hear from and work with health care professionals to understand how the legislature can improve Indiana's health care system. It is wonderful to see my colleagues support my efforts in ensuring the state's health care system is working well for health professionals and their patients."

SB 473 now moves to the House of Representatives for further consideration.

As the 2025 session gets underway, Brown encourages residents of Senate District 15 to contact her with any questions or comments they may have. Brown can be reached by filling out a "Contact Me" form online at www.IndianaSenateRepublicans.com/Brown or by phone at 800-382-9467.
