STATEHOUSE (March 6, 2025) — Communities in Senate District 8 will receive nearly $6.4 million to improve roads and bridges through the Community Crossings Matching Grant Program (CCMG), said State Sen. Mike Bohacek (R-Michiana Shores).

The CCMG, established by the Indiana General Assembly in 2016, aims to advance community infrastructure projects, strengthen local transportation networks and improve Indiana’s roads and bridges. Since its enactment, the program has awarded more than $2 billion in state matching funds for local construction projects.

In Senate District 8, the following communities received grants:

  • • Bourbon received $45,367.92;
  • • Culver received $1,011,810.75;
  • • Knox received $113,325;
  • • La Porte received $78,381.48;
  • • Marshall County received $1.5 million;
  • • Michiana Shores received $324,985.01;
  • • Starke County received $601,343.26;
  • • Walkerton received $1,075,774.50; and
  • • Wanatah received $121,264.50.

"Indiana is the Crossroads of America, and we need well-maintained roads and bridges to live up to that reputation," Bohacek said. "I commend our local leaders for taking advantage of this program and look forward to seeing the infrastructure improvements made in Senate District 8."

Through the program, the Indiana Department of Transportation matches up to $1.5 million annually when localities invest in road and bridge repairs. Counties with populations fewer than 50,000 and cities and towns with populations fewer than 10,000 receive a 75%/25% match, while counties with populations greater than 50,000 and cities and towns with populations greater than 10,000 receive a 50%/50% match.
