STATEHOUSE (Feb. 21, 2025) — A bill co-authored by State Sen. Ron Alting (R-Lafayette) that would expand a pilot program for at least five "micro facilities" that serve between three and 30 children to operate passed the Senate on Thursday, Feb. 20, with bipartisan support of 44-5.
Senate Bill 463 would also extend the availability of the employer child care tax credit by two years to 2027.
Previously, there were three micro facilities allowed in Indiana through the pilot program.
"In recent years, the need for child care in Indiana has increased as our state's economy continues to grow," Alting said. "Increasing child care options allows more parents to enter the workforce if they choose to, and I am happy to see this bill pass the Senate."
The bill now moves to the House of Representatives for further consideration.
Alting encourages residents of Senate District 22 to contact him with any questions or comments they may have. Alting can be reached by filling out a "Contact Me" form online at www.IndianaSenateRepublicans.com/Alting or by phone at 800-382-9467.
