Alting: Bill to boost liquor manufacturing for artisan distilleries passes Senate

STATEHOUSE (Feb. 20, 2025) — A bill authored by State Sen. Ron Alting (R-Lafayette) that would create greater growth opportunities for Indiana artisan distilleries by increasing production limits passed the Senate today with bipartisan support of 42-7.

Senate Bill 109 would allow artisan distilleries to increase the number of gallons of liquor a craft distiller can produce in a calendar year from 20,000 gallons to 30,000 gallons. The bill would also extend the timeframe a craft manufacturer is permitted to display products in an exposition or trade show from 45 days per year to 60 events per year.

"The roots of artisan distilling run deep for Hoosiers, allowing Indiana to stand out as staple of the industry and the tourism its businesses have brought to our great state," Alting said. "The benefits of SB 109 goes beyond Hoosier spirits, creating potential for long-term growth that will benefit the whole state."

SB 109 would allow the state to work with Hoosier artisan distillers, investing in a fast-growing business that represents the state's thriving agricultural industry and identity.

The bill now moves to the Indiana House of Representatives for further consideration.

Alting encourages residents of Senate District 22 to contact him with any questions or comments they may have. Alting can be reached by filling out a "Contact Me" form online at www.IndianaSenateRepublicans.com/Alting or by phone at 800-382-9467
