Local students gain experience at Indiana Statehouse
STATEHOUSE (Feb. 14, 2025) – Two local college students are serving as interns for the Indiana Senate Majority Caucus during the 2025 legislative session, said State Sen. Scott Alexander (R-Muncie).
Samuel Brumley, a resident of Muncie, is the son of Joel and Susan Brumley. Brumley graduated from Yorktown High School and is a junior at Ball State University studying computer and information technology.
Carson Lydon, an Oregon native, is the son of Mark and Jennifer Lydon. Lydon graduated from Churchill High School and is a graduate of Ball State University with degrees in political science and philosophy.
"During our busy legislative sessions, having interns is incredibly helpful," Alexander said. "I am thrilled to have students like Samuel and Carson taking part in this great learning experience."
As an IT intern, Brumley helps senators and staff troubleshoot technology issues, implement new technologies, and run cameras and other livestreaming equipment during committee meetings.
"From now until the end of the semester, I look forward to contributing my skills, learning from this amazing experience and growing in my career," Brumley said. "I am motivated for new chapter and incredible opportunities ahead."
As a legislative intern, Lydon tracks and analyzes bill data, provides constituent services, staffs Senate committee hearings and meetings, and conducts legislative policy research.
"I am grateful to have the opportunity to assist and learn from the Senate and to continue my professional development," Lydon said.
Senate Majority interns work through the duration of the legislative session, which is scheduled to end by April 29.
